Hey Mike.
I am having a very hard time with jackhammers. Do you recommend that I learn turtles first?
David
Hey David, you know that depends, have you gotten handspins down so you can balance
on your wrists and have wrist strength, if so the jackhammers are closer to that motion while the turtles are kind of a shifting of the body weight from side to side on each elbow....a trick that helped me was the leg sweep before getting into the jackhammers as explained in Volume 2 this caused my body motion to go around circular so all I had to do was just put my body on my wrist and keep the momentum going with the other hand...let me know how it goes. My name is Jason. I just recently ordered volume one of your "how to breakdance video". I have improved a
lot. I'm getting more and more fluent with the six step, popping, and the wave. The move I want to learn the most though is the windmill. I think that it is one of the best dance moves I've ever seen anyone do. So far I've been practicing for an hour everyday on all of the moves shown in volume 1. I practice the windmill the most though. I get discouraged a lot of times... but I know that I'm not going to learn it over night. I would be so thankful if you could give me some tips on how you learned the windmill yourself. I'm running out of them myself... lol. Please e-mail me at It would be a real encouragement hearing from the man himself... you. Thank you for your time in reading this e-mail.
Hey Jason thanks for writing, I really feel what your saying, so i'm going to go back to my beginning and tell
you my body was aching from practicing windmills, either the side of my knee would be so bruised or my hip bone or that place where you stick your elbow into your stomach it was discouraging but let me tell you, keep going you'll get it. What helped me was concentrating on rolling higher on my shoulder when i went on my back that gave me more room to place my elbow back in my stomach when I rolled around to the front...also where your practicing helps as welll... as I remember practicing on a marble floor or wood floor seemed to be better...number one protect your bruises I wrapped a flat kneepad on my hip bone so i could keep going on and bought the biggest knee pad for the side of my knee..and always remember keep your legs in V position...I hope this helped... you can do it don't give up...just wait till i tell you how I got no handed windmills...but i'll leave that for later.

Hey Breaker? I am 13 yrs. old and only bout 5'4 105 lbs. I really want to learn how to
break dance but I was wondering about sumthin. For the moves do you have to have a certain strength level to do them? I mean Im a lil guy but I want to break dance. I dont know if certain moves need certain amounts of strength. If you could please e- mail me back at *********** , I would really apprecitate it. Thanx man
Thanks for writing sorry for the delay been on a very busy show schedule but wanted to make
sure to get back to you, trust me on this one it's mostly technique not strength with proper technique you can do just about everything, remember Bruce Lee ...not a big guy compared to today but incredible technique...if you need another example when I first started I weighed about your weight and was shorter than you sooo keep going, you will get it.

Thanks for writing ....ahhhhhh yes the dreaded headspin pain...to tell you the truth in the
begining it seems like it will never be bearable...but don't worry it does....now to help you, put a kneepad in your cap or skicap when starting this will help you thru the bruising process and soon you can get away with a computer mouse pad or just the cap itself...but be ready for the dry scalp and the skin graphs that come from dry scalp coming from your head...all part of the process...but don't over do it cause I have had friends who develop a calous on their head which basicaly means baldness so take it in proportions when practicing..let me know how it goes.

I was wondering where, i could buy or what would be a good surface to learn to break
dance on., I have a tiel floor in the basement but I nearly bust my ass on it 10 times a day, i have noticed people have portable mats that are somewhat cushy. If you know where I could possibly buy one It would be of great help.
thank you
CUrran Johnston
Thanks for writing, most people buy linoleum which is vinyl flooring that you can get
from any Home depot or carpet store a 10' x10' or larger size should be fine. You can place card board under neath the linoleum for some cushiness... Make sure you spray some spray furniture wax on it to stop the stickiness, not to much though that it makes it to slick.

looks as though most of the break dancer shown on the site are males, maybe all. I'm a girl
really enthused about learning to break dance and wondered if I'd learn just as easy from the videos and have the strenghth to pull off all the moves???
thanks
Alexis
Thanks for writing Alexis, ,yes girls are very capable just concentrate on technique..good
technique will over come some strength... some moves will take a little more time but to let you in on a secret my sister first taught me how to Pop which started my career :)

Hi i have a question to aks about an injury i made a wallflip 2 months ago and had a
normal landing but with my feet and hands.at the next day at morning my right hand started to ache and after that i wasnt able to train 100%. I want so specialize the turtle and some floats because i have a normal weight but very much power (strenght). My question is how long do you think should i wait with trainig till my hand is 100% healed. I mean i dont feel any pain now but im sure if i start to train some turtle moves it will start again and then i can wait again some weeks.ok thx for my answer |

Thanks for writing,
I suggest you ice it for 2 weeks straight at least twice a day. to keep down the
inflamation you might want to try some Advil or ibuprofen..also check out the injury help line @ breaking questions on www.howtobreakdance.com .let me know how it does.

Hey Mike,
I have been learning your moves from volume one for a year now. I just got volume 2 for
Christmas along with a great empty room with linoleum to practice on. I have a quick question. I have just started practicing headspins, so far I can do a head stand but without my helmet it hurts. I don't want to have to go on the dancefloor with a helmet on so I was wondering if It is possible to toughen up your head through practice so you that you can stand the all that weight on your head without much pain.
I see you on volume one (breaker clips) do a windmill to a backspin to a headspin without a
helmet (very awesome by the way ;-). Do you just deal with the pain or does it not bother you. I know you get a lot of questions but if you could write back that would be great.
Thanx
