Neck Sprain: Okay you've woken up and you can hardly move your head
because of the pain coming from part of your neck and shoulder, you think
what is happening then your realize you were practicing headspins the whole
day, yesterday and your neck just wanted to remind you that it is only human
and wants some time off..Neck sprains can be done a numerous amount of
ways from holding a neck supported freeze to doing a hollowback to a quick
jerk of your head from hitting a pop locking routine. Either way it hurts and
you just want the hurting to go away because you would like to be able to
look right and left without it feeling like someone is sticking you with 100 pins
in the side of your neck..plus you look ridiculous having to turn your whole
upper body when a friend says hey look at that phat ride.

How to prevent it: Neck rotations during your prestretching will help, just do
rotations with your neck on head on your shoulders along with side to side
head leans. When warming up for headspins make sure you first start off by
doing just a head stand to get used to your body weight on your head and
neck, take special care when it is cold outside as this is one of the main times
when you are suseptible to pulss and sprains especially with your neck.

How to heal: From my own experience I find that an application of heating
rub such as tiger balm around your injured neck area the day after will
usually help relieve some of the pain you can also place a hot towel or hot
water bottle on your neck ,of course it is obvious to take some time usually
about 2 - 7 days to rest your injury. If you have access to a jacuzzi this will
also help because the heat of the water will relax your back muscles which
usually get tight when you have a neck injury.
