Ankle Sprain: Yes the ankle sprain, it can happen from just doing a simple
glide to landing the wrong way from a flip, but which ever way it happens will be the beginning of your ability to master another move called limping, or possibly the beginning of your friends calling you skip...the pain can be excruciating enough for you not to be able to walk on it or just a mild tendernes when you put your weight upon it.
How to prevent it: :unfortunately ankle sprains mainly are from accidents and
since you cannot determine when you may land wrong or trip on something there is really not a specific prevention although there is some preventive exercises the main way is to stretch your tendons in your ankles by doing toe raises where you lift your weight of your body on your toes, or in seated position grab your foot with both hands and work the foot in circular motions with your hands.
How to heal: I've had many ankle injuries so this is one I can tell you about with
alot of confidence, first off make sure that your ankle is not black and blue, if this is the case go to a doctor immediately this could be a sign that you have some sort of fracture and you have broken something. If your ankle is just swelling than more than likely you need to go with the ice treatment which is fill a bucket with ice and a little water than stick your foot and ankle into the bucket , your leg should be about shin high in the ice and water, keep you ankle there for 10 minutes than take it out for 15 minutes than stick it back for ten minutes than out again for 10 minutes than in again for 10 than out this will help bring down the swelling depending on how fast you want to heal you should do this about 3 to 5 times a day, I would suggest finding some of your favorite movies and do this while watching them because if you do this with nothing to do time will move in slow motion plus you will realize your foot is freezing and really doesn't want to be in the subartic bucket of water.
Next try to keep off your ankle as much as possible obviously if you keep weight on
it it will take longer to repair...I also suggest wearing an ankle brace if you do have to walk on it..you can get this from most stores or get some athletic wrap and wrap up your ankle for support, the main thing is time...you might also try taking calcium tablets good for bones and cartillage repair or something called Glucosamine sulfate which has been found to help in ankle and knee problems, which I only reccomend if your over the age of 20, reason being if your younger your body already has plenty in supply so you would just be wasting your money... after about a week or 2 gradually take your ankle supposrt off and walk on it ....you do not want your ankle to get use to the support as it will slow down the healing and will cause your body to get dependent on the support instead of just strengthening on it's own. |
