Breaking to me is about freedom, the freedom of expression the freedom of
creativity and the freedom to be yourself. In this day and age of so many rules and
regulations many things are compressed and stiffled due to people wanting to
categorize or stereotype people. Do not just follow the pack find your own journey.
As I am writing this I am reminded of many times in my life that people have tried to
stiffle my life with their opinions like oh you break that's not real dancing, or your to
young, or your not from New York , that isn't a real job or oh your still breaking man
everybody is doing the "HAMMER".

There was noone who had ever made a career from break dancing that I had
known of, but that's what I knew I wanted to do. When I graduated high school I
had to make a big decision see I was the guy most people would say is destined to
go to college I was class president, editor of the school newspaper, student council
and had a scholarship to play soccer at North Carolina, but I knew I had to go with
my passion, what I believe to be true to me. ( That's not to say college is not a good
thing, for some it is but I didn't want to go just because everyone else was going, I
knew I wanted to break and entertain, it wasn't always easy but I wouldn't change it)

Being a breaker or b-boy is making your own statement, and unfortunately now a
days I am hearing even breakdancers trying to categorize themselves (oh that guy is
all power, that guy is just flavor, he doesn't look like a break dancer, he's not
hardcore) ...people come on!... if there is one thing that doesn't need more
regulations and judgement it's breaking, be who you are, don't be intimidated to
express yourself and don't let other people judge you, whether it's going out in a
circle or just practicing knowing you don't have a move down... be true to yourself.

There are alot of egos out there and attitudes I can't believe, remember the next
time your battling that he is not your enemy but the guy who will bring the best out of
you it's almost a reflection of you and what you need to work on and when it's over
remember you guys are part of the same thing, one of the reasons I think breaking
faded in the 80's was that there was no unity in it...no one was helping each other (
check out surfers, BMXer's, skateboarders sure they compete against each other but
afterward they can still hang with each other) and that's why I created the United
Breakers Association (but that's another story) also the next time you see a fellow
breaker trying out a new move help them out as b-boys breakers breakdancers what
ever you want to call it we are part of each other and we're all in this together , let
breaking come from your heart and your feeling, learn the moves then fly with your
imagination. Believe in yourself.
